good weekend

I don’t get out much anymore since I opened the shop, but this past weekend was a nice departure from my usual routine (which consists of getting home late from work, flopping on the couch, shoving food in my face, doing computer things and going to sleep). We started the weekend with a casual potluck to celebrate the birthday of one of my best friends. I made chili in our large Nacco dutch oven, which was given to us by my father-in-law.

When I use it, though, I like to place the lid on it askew so it’s easier to grab the handles.┬áIt looks kinda weird like that though.

(I’m not posting any photos of my chili because, dang, chili really isn’t photogenic, is it?) We continued the birthday celebration with a smaller get-together later in the weekend, once again kind of a potluck of sorts. All of the dishes were delicious, but the best part were these:

Mini burgers with slices of apple and crumbled blue cheese. Ama~azing. I made pumpkin mac and cheese, somewhat following {this recipe}, except I added some fresh sage that I crisped up in butter. And I used orecchiette, because it’s my favorite (I like that they become little wells for the sauce). So easy and so good. We ended the weekend with a hike in the woods to take advantage of the gorgeous weather. It’s so lush right now. Spring is close, I feel it!

Can you spot my furry pup?

It was a good weekend.
