Since becoming a small business owner, I spend most of my time working, and by that I mean working alone. It’s mostly fine – I have a proclivity for introversion and anal retention – so it’s not out of my comfort zone to do everything myself. But when people ask if there’s anything I miss about my previous “real” jobs, it’s that I don’t have any coworkers with whom to exchange ideas, give/get pep talks to/from, and just shoot the poo in general.
This is all to explain that since I don’t have the company of coworkers to stimulate me, I tend to spend a lot of my time reading self-help type articles and interviews about best practices and successful people – usually relevant to retail, but also often about entrepreneurs in food, design and fashion. I also like to read about the struggles they had to endure to get where they are, and I’ll admit this is just because it makes me feel better. That might be schadenfreude-ian of me, but it’s the truth and I cannot tell a lie.
With that, I share with you this interview of Wendy Mullin of Built by Wendy by Erin McKenna of BabyCakes, probably two of my favorite brands. Needless to say, I’m a fangirl of the two ladies wo-manning the helms (sorry, I had to) of their respective companies, so it was delightfully inspiring for me to read the silly and serious things they had to say. I can’t say that Hello Giggles is my usual go-to site for, uh, business inspiration, but I can get behind the whole girl-poweriness of it all.
In other news, I’ve been stealthily adding new things to the online shop this week too, although some of them have sold already. But some exciting new products will be coming in over the next few weeks so stay tuned. And don’t forget about the FARMcurious pop-up launch party on the 24th!
