pop-up pie party

Four more days! Four more days of our shop’s closing sale, four more days til this brick-and-mortar turns into a pumpkin. Our inventory is dwindling quickly, but there are still lots of great deals to be had, so come on!

Tomorrow, Natalie of Bike Basket Pies will be keeping me company at the shop from 4-6pm. A little birdie also told me there will be champers for thirsty shoppers, but you didn’t hear it from me. Come party with us, we’re pretty fun!

Pop-Up Pie Party

announcement! we’re moving (kinda)…

P+P_Moving_Newsletter

It’s true! And it’s exciting!

After 2-plus years operating primarily as a brick-and-mortar shop, Pot + Pantry at 593 Guerrero Street will be no longer after March 24th.

I know. I KNOW.

A lot of boring reasons are behind this decision, but suffice it to say that I’m really looking forward to moving Pot + Pantry completely online. We are, literally, baking up a new website (mmm, lemon poppy seed flavor, my favorite), which you are getting a peek at above and on the splash page! As you can probably tell from the new look, my plan is to switch things up pretty drastically and take P+P in a new direction. You can follow the progress on the shop’s blog for updates as we lead up to the relaunch.

In the meantime, here are things you should care about:

BIG SALE! Now through Sunday, March 24th
All merchandise will be 30% off!* Shop fixtures will be for sale as well, so now you can buy that steel spiral staircase you always wanted. And that 2-ton concrete sink. Do it!
*This excludes the lovely, stunning, beautiful artwork by Kelly Waters that is up until March 21st.

Bike Basket Pies Pop-Up on Thursday, March 21st
Natalie of Bike Basket Pies will be hawking her scrumptious, teeny pies at the shop for fun, and also to provide you with delicious snacks as you browse.

And lastly, I leave you with the recipe for the new Pot + Pantry website (coming soon!):

New Pot + Pantry Website Recipe

Ingredients
+ 1 part super duper adorable illustrations by Anna Hurley
+ 1 part web coding wizardry by the inimitable Max La Rivière-Hedrick of futureprüf
+ 1 part crazy ideas from a crazy shopowner (me)
+ 1 Tbsp lemon zest
+ 2 Tbsp poppy seeds

Instructions
Mix all ingredients in a Google doc. Add to WordPress and serve hot.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, everyone, for the love you’ve shown to the Pot + Pantry shop—both at the original 22nd Street location and then at 593 Guerrero. The past few years of my life have been so much richer because of you, and there is no other community on earth I’d want to be a part of. I hope you can visit me at 593 location before I close its doors so I can thank you in person, and I’m looking forward to sharing the new Pot + Pantry with you soon.

Donna

true love

I came home on Valentine’s Day to find that my sister had sent me a care package. It included a ring pop, Hello Kitty Jelly Belly candy beans, a huge Toblerone, homemade heart-shaped cheddar crackers, and these:

Not pictured: Me, making the Domo “rawr” face behind the camera/phone.

Sisterly love is a true love.

Happy Friday, and happy long weekend!

all the food that’s fit to paint

Hidy ho, friends!

You are cordially invited to the opening reception for All the Food That’s Fit to Paint by local artist Kelly Waters on Thursday, February 21st, from 6-9pm at Pot + Pantry.

I’m so pleased to host Kelly’s show, which features original watercolor paintings of local foods and notable dishes from SF restaurants. We’ll have snacks and booze available as you admire the pretty food art, reenact the Did You Eat It sketch, and discuss the merits of this old NYT opinion piece. Bonus: The first person to correctly recognize the dishes below wins a free fist-bump from me (value: $0.06).

Tell your mama, tell your friends, tell anyone whose heart can comprehend. See you there!

Donna

springerles from kristin

I’m feeling kind of like I blacked out for all of the Fall/Holiday season and I’m just now coming to. It’s because, out of nowhere, this morning I remembered an email from Marcus (remember him and his lovely illustrated Dutch Apple Pancake recipe?) in which he sent me the recipe his wife Kristin uses for making Springerle cookies. Did I mention the recipe was sent to me back in *cough* October? Hence my comment on being semi-unconscious for the past few months. Seriously, how did I forget to share this? It’s fantastic.

Belated thanks, Marcus and Kristin!

no tomorrow

No Tomorrow print by From the Hill

It seems wrong to let the year end without making some kind of note on this neglected blog of mine. Twenty-twelve, what a beast you were! I don’t know that I quite conquered you, but I put up a good fight. In the end, I think I came out slightly ahead.

I feel how I usually feel on most December 31sts, which is to say that I’m energized, excited, and anxious for the coming calendar year. I get this way with each birthday and anniversary I collect, too, so it’s nice that I get to feel this buzz multiple times each year. This time, however, the feelings are a bit amplified. It’s a good thing.

I’ve stopped making new year’s resolutions, since I’ve failed at keeping the majority of them over the years. (But I will take credit for continuing to make my bed every day, which is a resolution I made when I was way too old to be making such juvenile promises to myself.) So instead of resolutions, I have aspirations. Top of the list is to be more positive! (Note the exclamation mark!!) I’m not a negative person by any means, but I’m a pretty harsh critic, particularly of myself. So my goal is to take my typically morbid internal monologue and turn it into positive motivation.

The poster above? It’s kind of my unofficial motto for 2013. No tomorrow! Live for today! Carpe diem! YOLO! Basically, if I could find an equally attractive poster that said “F*** it! Do it!” I would have used that instead.

Cheers to 2013, everyone! Thank you for supporting me and p+p from near and far. I wish you all health and happiness in the new year!

who’s down with bbp (bike basket pies)?

I am about 2 weeks late in posting this recap of Natalie’s pie dough workshop that happened here on November 14th, but this is actually perfect timing to announce two more pie workshops we added for December 5th and 12th! Naturally, the class on December 5th is sold out already, but we’re totally open for December 12th. Look how much fun this group had! Sign up here.

beer, bourbon, and bbq

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. My family came up from LA to spend a few days with me, and they spoiled me with love and attention and lots (and lots and lots) of food. Thanksgiving was crazy and perfect in the best way and it was just what I needed for my first day off in 16 days. I was so sad when they left that I immediately booked a ticket home to visit them for Christmas. I miss them.

But enough that of mushy gushy stuff. Back at the shop, Alyson Thomas‘ show, Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ, is up until December 8th so come and get it!

My favorites are the cut paper pieces she framed in these super rad shadow box things (apologies for the lack of art jargon, since I am but a rube). $250-$300.

These 6 x 6 cocktail diagram watercolors have been a huge hit on the interwebs. They’re mounted on wood tiles and look so good hung together in a cluster. $100 each.

For the meat lovers out there, Alyson’s got you covered. Country Ham + Glass of Bourbon and Ribs + Floss. 8.5 x 11 original watercolor and ink paintings, framed and archival matted in 11 x 14 frame. $150 each.

And, of course, booze.

There’s more where all this came from. No, really, there’s more. In the store. So come by, they’ll be up until December 8th!
